Mengding Ganlu, also known as "Sweet Dew from Mengding," is a premium spring-harvest green tea from Mengding Mountain in Sichuan, China. Hand-picked before Qingming Festival (early April), only single buds with one young leaf are selected for peak freshness. The leaves are pan-fired and gently rolled multiple times, producing a bright green infusion with a silky mouthfeel.
It offers a roasted chestnut aroma with delicate floral undertones—particularly orchid—and finishes with a sweet, lingering aftertaste. The tea grows at ~800m altitude, in a misty, rainy microclimate that reduces bitterness and enhances sweetness. Although not high-altitude by Chinese standards, this region’s unique terroir and historical legacy make Mengding Ganlu one of the most refined green teas available.
💧 Tea-to-Water Ratio
🌡️ Recommended water temperature:80–85°C (176–185°F)
Avoid using boiling water to preserve the fresh aroma and smooth taste
Recommended equipment: glass pot / ceramic pot, suitable for observing the expansion of tea leaves
Tips: The shorter the brewing time, the softer the taste; long brewing may have a slightly astringent taste of grass but still sweet, shortening the brewing time will reduce the bitterness
Q1: Is this tea beginner-friendly?
✅ Yes. Mengding Ganlu is smoother and more approachable than typical grassy green teas. A great entry point into premium Chinese green teas.
Q2: Why does it smell like chestnuts?
That roasted chestnut scent is due to traditional pan-firing techniques that gently roast the tea and develop complex nutty aromas.
Q3: Does it taste bitter?
Not really. When brewed properly with 80–85°C water, it offers a mellow sweetness with barely any bitterness.
Q4: Can I drink this if I'm caffeine-sensitive?
Green tea contains moderate caffeine. Mengding Ganlu is on the lower side. Try cold brewing or using less leaf if you’re sensitive.
Q5: How should I store it?
Store in a sealed, airtight container away from light, heat, and strong odors. Refrigeration is ideal, as long as the seal is tight.
