Best Green Tea for Iced Tea: What to Choose and How to Brew

The best green tea for iced tea is one whose flavor still reads clearly after chilling. Fresh, nutty or aromatic green teas can work well, but the brewing method matters as much as the name on the package.

What to Look For

Choose a green tea with a flavor you already enjoy hot. Dragon Well can bring a roasted-nut and fresh-green direction; Bi Luo Chun can feel more aromatic and lively. The goal is not to find a tea marketed only for ice. It is to choose a tea that stays balanced when cold.

Quick Hot-Over-Ice Method

  1. Use 4–5 g of green tea.
  2. Heat 250 ml / 8 oz of water to about 80°C / 176°F.
  3. Infuse for 90 seconds, then strain.
  4. Pour over a full glass of ice.
  5. Taste after the ice has begun to melt.

This method brews the tea stronger because melting ice adds water. If the result is harsh, shorten the hot infusion. If it becomes watery, use slightly more leaf.

Refrigerated Method

Combine 5–6 g of tea with 500 ml / 17 oz of drinking water and refrigerate for 6–8 hours. Strain before serving. This produces a softer cup and belongs to the broader cold brew method.

Avoid These Common Problems

  • Do not leave hot-brewed leaves sitting in the finished iced tea.
  • Do not compensate for weak flavor only with a very long steep.
  • Use enough ice for rapid cooling when using the hot method.
  • Keep refrigerated brews cold and use clean equipment.

Choose Your Tea

Start with Dragon Well Green Tea or Bi Luo Chun Green Tea, then compare the rest of the green tea collection. Brew the same tea by both methods before deciding which one you prefer.
