A Scientific Excuse to Exercise Less

Ready to have an excuse to not have to work out long hours anymore that is actually backed by science? Lazy people rejoice because there is a new study that argues that less, but more frequent exercise can help you lose weight.


The Science That Backs It Up

Published in the Obesity journal, a doctorate student at Stony Brook University has conducted experiments on mice subjects showing that a low, intense vibration at intervals throughout the day is most effective for weight loss. The experiment was run to compare the two forms of losing weight, whether the vibrations, representing exercise, was conducted all at once, or in low amounts separated at various times during the day. In relations as a result of the experiment, participants lost more glucose metabolism and overall weight when the vibrations were run at intervals, than those who had the same amount of vibrations all at one time.

This whole study was run to show that from previous studies that have proven that a low magnitude, high-frequency mechanical stimulation, also known as LMMS, can help reduce the fatty tissue called adipose in your system, that the LMMS is more effective when done in intervals.

This low-intensity vibration can also reduce health risks the come along with weight gain, like diabetes. Even though exercise is still an important necessity when it comes to losing weight the healthy way, those running this experiment argue that LMMS can even be seen as a substitution. This, of course, though based on experimental research, can be seen as a case of opinions, where one person may think that exercise cannot be replaced when it comes to weight loss and healthy living, but others may think differently.

What This Means for You

Since in this case they refer to these vibrations and exercise synonymously, they conclude that both exercise and low-intensity vibrations are most effective separated by a period of rest and shorter continuous lengths of time rather than long, non-stop gym sessions.
